Elastomer is a coined word combining “elastic” + “polymer”.
Generally, all of what is called “rubber” are elastomers. Elastomers that has elasticity at room temperature without crosslinking (bonding between polymers by applying sulfur or heat) are called “thermoplastic elastomer (TPE)”. Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) has many excellent properties compared to rubber. Since there is no cross-linking step, the molding cycle is shorter than rubber, and molding can be performed by injection molding.
Products that use thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) are widely used in applications that require sealing properties, such as inner plugs for containers containing dental solvents and inner plugs for food-related containers. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are also used in medical products, food products, automotive parts, electrical products, furniture, stationery, and various other products around us.
